Heart Attack is more among Men as Compared to Women: Why!
Hello
Friends!
Hope you all are doing well and getting benefits from my previous posts. Today we will analyze why Heart attack is more among men as compared to women. As we all know that “Stress is perhaps the most underrated of all our heart disease risk factors”. We all know that during winter season problem of heart attack is more due to increasing air pollution and accumulation of particles in the air. So during winter season use mask so that heart works smoothly and blockage in coronary artery can be prevented. Let’s understand why Heart attack is more among men as compared to women.
Heart Attack:
A Heart
attack is caused due to blockage in coronary artery. The blood starts clotting
and tissue fails to get enough oxygen and person dies.
Heart disease among top killers in India:
In the
past 25 years India has witnessed alarming rise in Heart attack. Cardio
vascular disease has gone up in India between 1990 and 2016. Stroke is fifth
leading cause of heart problem in India. In India in 2016 28.1% of total deaths
were due to Heart attack as compared to 15.2% deaths in 1990. Heart disease
contributed 17.8% of total deaths in India. The Heart disease related deaths
are higher among men as compared to women. Deaths due to cardiovascular
diseases rose from 13 lakh in 1990 to 28 lakh in 2016.
States in India where Heart attack is highest:
Cases of
Cardiovascular diseases has increased from 2.57 crore in 1990 to 5.45 crore in
2016. The following states have maximum cases of Heart Attack :
(a)
Punjab (b) Kerala (c) Tamil Nadu (d) Andhra Pradesh (e) Himachal Pradesh (f)

Why Heart attack is more among Men as compared to women?
1. In
men the ‘risk factor disease’ like cholesterol, high blood pressure, diabetes
and obesity are more as compared to women. So throughout life men is about
twice as likely as women to have a Heart attack.
2. In
women ‘Estrogen’ Hormone is present naturally. Estrogen Hormone provides
protection to women from Heart attack. In women Heart attack occurs mostly
during menopause. Before menopause if women face Heart attack it is due to drop
in level of estrogen. Estrogen level drops due to obesity, irregular periods,
junk food consumption, Polycystic ovary Syndrome (PCOS).
3. In women ‘Good Cholesterol’ is there due to high level of Estrogen. It increases level of high density ‘Lipoprotein’ which provides protection against heart disease.
4.
Middle aged men are in more ‘Stress’. Thus it causes complication in rhythms of
heart beats.
5.
‘Woman’s heart is usually smaller than man's heart’. Its 'Interior Chamber' is small.
Thus woman’s heart pumps faster than man's heart. When women is stressed her pulse rate
rises and heart ‘ejects’ more blood. But in case of men stress causes high
blood pressure and blockage in arteries. So heart attack is more among men.
6.
Excessive alcohol consumption, smoking, drug addiction increases coronary risk factors
among men as compared to women.
7.
‘Coronary Artery Disease’ affects the ‘small arteries of women’ but in case of
men CAD affects the major arteries. So rate of Heart attack is high among men.
8. Among
women after ‘Menopause’ risk of heart disease is high due to increase in body
weight, increase in ‘Visceral Fat’ which leads to ‘Metabolic Syndrome’. Thus
‘Type 2 Diabetes’ problem occurs and women face heart problem during menopause.
9. Among
men risk of ‘Hypercholesterolemia’ is more during young age. So cholesterol
level changes and heart problem occurs among men at young age.
10.
‘Emotional Stress’ like ‘Isolation’ affects
men more as compared to women because women have inborn tendency to bear
emotional stress than men. For example: Women have in born tendency of maternal
instinct.
Is it easy to diagnose heart problem among women?
No it’s
not easy to diagnose heart problem among women because women are less likely to
report chest pain and more likely to dismiss symptoms. Woman’s are less likely
to receive same diagnostic tests and 50% cases are misdiagnosed. The symptoms
of heart attack also varies among women as compared to men like shortness of
breath create confusion with problem in lungs. So sometimes it becomes difficult
to diagnose heart problem among women because blockage of small arteries is not
properly diagnosed during tests.
