Health benefits of Turmeric as we all know that ‘Health is Wealth’. To maintain
healthy life eat food which is rich in fiber, drink plenty of water, have
enough sleep and free your mind from any mental stress, anxiety. Life is
precious gift given to us by God and one should live a life which is full of
joy and happiness.

Turmeric is major part of Ayurveda, Unani. It is mainly found in Indian
Subcontinent and South East Asia. Turmeric is important part of our daily diet
as we used it for cooking purposes.
Turmeric is known as “Haldi” in Hindi and Punjabi.

Background
Around
500 BCE Turmeric emerged as an important part of Ayurvedic medicine because it
has many Antiseptic and Antioxidant properties. Ayurvedic system of treating
disease is still practiced in India. Turmeric an herbal medicine is also known
as “Indian Saffron”. Indian Turmeric is rich in Curcumin (Yellow Chemical produce by
Curcumalunga plant, derived from rhizome of Curcumalunga) content and
considered to be the best in the world.

Health Benefits of Turmeric:
1. Anti Inflammatory: Turmeric works as a great remedy in pain by reducing inflammation. Main component in Turmeric ‘Curcumin’ reduces inflammation in body. Curcumin helps in improving symptoms of Arthritis.
3. Alzheimer disease: Alzheimer is a
disease that slows down our memory. Alzheimer disease destroys the brain cells
and thus results in dementia (Decline in thinking, behavior). Turmeric helps in
curing Alzheimer disease as component Curcumin within turmeric has anti amyloidal
properties. (Amyloid means protein deposited in liver, kidney and spleen).
4. Anti cancer: Curcumin within Turmeric
has antioxidant properties. Thus it kills cancer cells. It works as a great
remedy in breast cancer, small bowel cancer, stomach cancer, skin cancer. One should
take ½ table spoon of turmeric daily to prevent further growth of cancer cells.
5. Immune System: Turmeric helps in
improving our immune system as turmeric has immunomodulator properties.
Curcumin within turmeric fight against infections. It increases capacity of
white blood cells to fight against infections and improves immune system.
6. UTI: UTI is Urinary Tract Infection
that occurs mostly in summer season. When E.coli bacteria grows in stomach then comes into bladder thus
causing infection in bladder. One urges to urinate again and again. Thus turmeric
reduces inflammation in bladder. Turmeric had anti bacterial properties.
7. Anti Ageing: Turmeric helps in reducing
oil on Skin. One can get rid off wrinkles and blackheads by applying turmeric
powder on skin after mixing with water.
8. Crohn’s Disease: It is a chronic
inflammatory bowel disease. It affects lining of digestive tract. Crohn’s
disease can be cured by consuming Turmeric because Curcumin is an anti-inflammatory
compound in Turmeric. It helps in reducing symptoms of Irritable Bowel Syndrome
(IBS).
9. Multiple Sclerosis (MS) and Parkinson’s Disease:
MS is a chronic inflammatory auto immune disease of central nervous system. Turmeric has outstanding neuroprotective benefits,

subsets in circulation. Curcumin increase expression of ZO-1 protein thus
treats auto immune disease.
10. Asthma: Turmeric can cure symptoms of
asthma and improve functioning of lungs because Curcumin helps in reducing
airway obstruction.
How to use Turmeric in curing various diseases:
1. High cholesterol: 700 mg twice a day
for 3 months.
2. Skin Infection: 500 mg thrice a day for
2 months.
3. Arthritis: 500 mg twice a day for 2-3 months.
4. Depression: 500 mg twice a day for 2
months.
Precautions:
1. Upset Stomach: Turmeric may cause
inflammation in your stomach if you take it in higher quantity. Thus it may
lead to abdominal pain and cramps.
2. Pregnancy: Turmeric may not be safe
during pregnancy as this herb can stimulate uterus which can cause miscarriage.
3. Surgery: Stop using turmeric if you are
going for any surgery because it slows down blood clotting and may cause extra
bleeding during surgery.
4.
Suddenly rise in blood pressure if you take it in higher quantity (Pay
Attention).
5. Diabetes: Curcumin within turmeric can
decrease blood sugar level. So it may not be safe for diabetic patients.
6. Gall bladder disease: Turmeric may
cause gall bladder to contract thus worsen the symptoms.
7. Kidney Stone: Primary cause of kidney
stone is calcium oxalate. Turmeric also contains oxalate thus increase chances
of kidney stone if we take it in higher quantity.
